Our practice specialises in rural design often in remote locations where sensitive design is critical in the successful realisation of a building project.
This approach is quite different to working in the city. In the country landscape, siting and view are critically important.
We have completed a number of award winning buildings that respond to these needs where symmetry and proportion play an important role to producing designs that work well in the countryside.
.
Siting rural buildings must take account topography, where the building must seem routed in the ground and its landscape. Our national park gateway project and new housing in Pitlochry illustrates this well.
.
Form and proportion are really important- more so than just imitatingtraditional design details. Traditional housing and non-domestic can be a good starting point to the design, but each project is different!
.
We like to use traditional and natural materials. Often our designs use unexpected combinations of material and colour that work well in rural locations. Our Ross-Shire house is a good example of this approach.
